Teeth Whitening
Teeth are one of the indispensable elements of human aesthetics and complement our beauty. Teeth whitening has an important place in aesthetic dentistry. Teeth whitening is a procedure that is generally applied when the appearance of the teeth is darker than usual for various reasons.
The main causes of discoloration in teeth are:
- Fluorosis: excess fluoride, especially in consumed foods
- Tetracycline: use of tetracycline group antibiotics during pregnancy and childhood
- Febrile diseases in children
- Genetic factors
- Root canal treatments, environmental factors
- Consumption of tea, cigarettes, coffee
Teeth whitening can be applied to a single tooth or all teeth in the mouth.
Teeth whitening is divided into two as at-home and in-office teeth whitening. At-home teeth whitening is a procedure of applying the whitening gel, which is placed in a bleaching tray created by measuring the patient, at home by the patient himself until the desired whiteness is achieved. The treatment with this method lasts 2-6 weeks.
In-office teeth whitening is a procedure applied by a dentist. It includes the application of whitening gel with laser light. This method is a preferred method because it shortens the treatment time.
